WHAT DO SMELL SALTS DO?
In sports, smell salts are used for a short-term performance boost. They stimulate the airways and trigger a reflex in the breathing muscles, which can increase oxygen intake and help improve alertness and focus.
The strong scent may also help release adrenaline in the body, giving you that extra kick before a lift or intense moment. During long competitions—or when you’re tired—they can also be used to support a sharper mental state.
Smell salts have also historically been used to wake unconscious people.
ARE SMELL SALTS SAFE?
When used correctly, smell salts are not dangerous. Used in small amounts, they are considered safe.
Keep ammonia-based smell salts about 10–15 cm away from your nose and only inhale a controlled amount.
Avoid using them too often, and keep the product away from your eyes and mouth.
Misuse can cause irritation of the mucous membranes.
ARE SMELL SALTS CONSIDERED DOPING?
No. Smell salts are not prohibited under anti-doping rules.
WHAT DO SMELL SALTS SMELL LIKE?
Smell salts produce ammonia gas, which smells like ammonia. The scent is sharp and irritating to the airways.
Some versions can include added fragrance, meaning you may smell additional notes besides ammonia.
WHERE CAN I BUY SMELL SALTS?

I ORDERED SMELL SALTS, BUT THEY DON’T SMELL STRONG – WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Smell salts need to be activated before they start producing ammonia gas.
How to activate:

Add half a cap of water into the jar

Close the lid
-
Shake the jar for about 30 seconds

Open the jar away from your face
If the scent still feels weak after activation, contact our support team.
CAN I OPEN THE JAR INDOORS?
The smell usually doesn’t spread far or stay in the room for long. The strong scent is mainly present while the jar is open, and it fades quickly.
Still, we recommend using smell salts only in well-ventilated areas.
For best longevity, keep the lid closed whenever you’re not using it.
CAN I USE SMELL SALTS FOR SPORTS OTHER THAN POWERLIFTING?
Absolutely.
Smell salts are traditionally used in the gym, hockey, and combat sports—but they work great in any sport where you want a quick boost in alertness, focus, or intensity.
DO I NEED TO ACTIVATE SMELL SALTS EVERY TIME?
No.
You only need to activate the product once after purchase by adding half a cap of water.
If the jar weakens over time and the scent disappears completely, you can try reactivating it with a small amount of water at your own responsibility. We recommend contacting customer service first.
IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT FOR SMELL SALTS?
There is no legal age restriction in Finland for smell salts. However, our recommendation is 14+.
This is because the user should be able to read and understand the instructions and warnings on the label and use the product safely.
